Apple decided to take one piece of MobileMe and make it free this week: the Find My iPhone functionality. It actually works with the iPod Touch and iPad too. You use your Apple ID and register your iPhone. Then you can go on to your Mac and see its location on a map. Or, you can use the free Find My iPhone app on another iOS device to locate it.

Will this free service work for older iPhones like the 3GS? Or is it just compatible with the iPhone 4? I have a mobile me account that costs me about 120 bux a year. The find my iPhone app was the deciding factor of me signing up. If I can now get it for free?...
I think as long as the iPhone 3GS is running iOS 4.2.
I've got the 3GS v4.2 and the app still comes up incompatible.
I have been buying boxed retail version of Mobile Me on ebay for around $45.00 for years.
Done everything but it says my phone is not allowed a free MobileMe account?
Perhaps it is U.S. only? Have you tried to call Apple?
