MacMost Forum / Canadians buying iPad and bringing home

Hi Gary – I am a Canadian going to the US this Thurs or Fri. If I buy an iPad there will the Wi Fi work in Canada? Are the protocols the same. Is there a down side to me buying there and bring it back home? (other than duty fees, etc)?

    WiFi is the same worldwide. WiFi networks are created by the base station in your home, or at a hotspot (like a hotel, airport or coffee shop). They don’t vary from country to country. If you have a WiFi network at home, it should work with the iPad in the same way it works with whatever computers you have now.
    I don’t know of a downside, but I haven’t thought much about it. Not sure if the exchange rate makes it cheaper or not. Not sure what would happen if you need support from the Apple stores in Canada, though.

    The Canadian dollar is at parity with the greenback. ;) Not sure if Apple.ca will honour warranty. Perhaps give them a call. I am interested myself.

    Just wondering… would the apps or settings be different for USA and International (Canada)?
