MacMost Forum / Deleting Dashboard

While in document, dashboard keeps popping up, a click will send it away but I only want to look at it occasionally if at all.

  1. You definitely don’t want to delete Dashboard. But you shouldn’t be getting it when you don’t want it. You’ve got to figure out what you are doing to trigger it.
Perhaps you have a button or action on your mouse set to activate Dashboard? Check in the System Prefs, Mouse pane. Perhaps you have a keyboard shortcut to it? Check in the System Prefs, Keyboard shortcuts pane. Also check in the Expose pane to see if you have a hot corner set to run Dashboard.

For whatever reason, I sometimes accidentally hit the dashboard key on my iMac’s keyboard when I’m typing, especially something longer like a letter.

Is it possible Bill is overshooting his intended key on the keyboard?

    • Try setting those keys to be F-keys instead. That’s in the Keyboard prefs. Then you have to press the “fn” key to use Dashboard and the like. That’s the way I have it, since I need to use those F-keys for some programs anyway.

    Nice bit of advice Gary.

I can’t get rid of dashboard. No matter where I click, the dashboard widgets open up. I can’t even shutdown the computer. Nothing works. Anywhere I click, the dashboard opens up. When I click again it disappears but then opens up when I click again. It is on an endless loop.

    • Sounds like you have assigned the dashboard to a mouse action. Go to System Prefs, Mouse, then see if that is the case. Then go to System Prefs, Expose & Spaces, Expose and look at the Dashboard section.

Wish I could try this but the problem is really bad. When I try to click on System Prefs the widgets open up. Nothing responds, not even the widgets. They’re there on the desktop but none of them work. When I click on one, the dashboard closes but opens up again if I try to click on anything else and nothing is responding except the dashboard opening up and closing. The problem is on my iMac. I’m using my MacBook to communicate.
