MacMost Forum / Do You Recommend Formatting a New External HD?

Bought a refurb external HD from Best Buy. Should I use Disk Utility to format it for optimal use with my Mac, and if so, at which setting?

    Absolutely. If there is no data on it that you want, then why not? Only takes a minute.
    And chances are it is not formatted for Mac right now, so it would not be optimal for Mac use.
    Reformat it at Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
