I have osx 10.5.8 and have x11 installed, but every time I try to load it to run gimp or inkscape, it won’t load. Neither program will run without x11. I have reloaded from my install disc, but still no luck. What can I do?

Impossible for me to say what could be wrong. You could always try re-installing the entire system. That’s extreme, but I don’t know how you would go about trouble-shooting it otherwise. You could always upgrade to Snow Leopard too, to see if that fixes it.
After much research on the net, I found out that I needed to download a different version of X11 at http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/Releases where I downloaded version 2.5.3 which seems to be working.
