How Do I Put a Thumbnail In My iMovie Theatre Clip?

Most of my clips from imovie theatre are black is there a way to put a picture in it like by YouTube that you can choose a custom thumbnail from your library?

There doesn't seem to be a way to do this. iMovie chooses a frame from the very middle of the movie.
If you know what you are doing, you can go into the Movies folder, Control+Click on the iMovie Theater folder and open package contents. Then you can see the Thumbnails folder in there and edit the .png files with Photoshop or whatever you have. Not sure how well this will work, but you can try it if you really want to. Probably worth saving the file elsewhere too, since the next time you render the Theater movie it will copy of it again.
Also, if you are using iCloud with Theater then the thumbnail won't be there. You have to select the theater item in iMovie and use the ... button to remove it from iCloud first.

Thank you Gary for your help. I did what you said and i opened the thumbnail folder and i found out that it is empty. I'm not sure when i put some .png files in it if i can assign them to a movie but i think i will try it and see what the out come is.

Jos: See the last part of my comment above. You probably have iMovie set to publish to iCloud then. I was able to get the movie and thumbnail back into the Movies/iMovie Theater by clicking on the ... button in iMovie Theater and removing it from iCloud. That put it back in there. But not sure what good that will do you if you need the Theater project in iCloud. Maybe try putting it back after you change the png and see what happens.

Hello Gary it did work to get the thumbnails back into the folder of movie theatre but i tried to assign a new thumbnail to a movie but it didn't work out for the thumbnail. What is a shame because now you always get a thumbnail you don't want. It is nicer when they did it like in YouTube. But thanks for explaining i learned again something.
