MacMost Forum / iPad GPS with WiFi

Hi there. Am I right that the wifi only ipad does not have gps. If this is right if I buy a 3g ipad and don’t activate the 3g that I can still use the gps. If not can I use the gps if I use it with a mifi pod

  1. The wifi iPad does not have GPS — but it does detect your location using any wifi signals it finds. So you can use all the location-based services on apps. It is fairly accurate, just not as accurate as a GPS in some cases.
I believe that if you don’t have the 3G turned on, that it cannot use the GPS. That is how it works on the iPhone 3GS. But I’m not 100%.
There is no way for your iPad to get a GPS reading from another device, like a MiFi.

not true about not reading from another device. i get very accurate readings using verizon mifi, no matter where I am. In the car or just about town. Am amazed how accurate the wifi model is without GPS. When traveling, there is a 10-20 second lag in maps to positioning.

Will the Ipad do Skype with the apple head phones with a mic on them? Video TOO?
