MacMost Forum / melody on booting up

Is there a way to turn off the melody played when you turn on the laptop?

    One way is to mute or lower your volume before you shut down. Another is to simply resist shutting down your Mac — but it to sleep instead (http://macmost.com/shut-down-or-sleep.html).
    I’ve never tried it, but there is a Startup Sound preference pane you can download somewhere. Search for it. I think it just mutes your volume automatically.
