When I purchased the MacBook Pro 17 I was told that I could transfer (migrate) all files from my 15 to the 17. I asked for specifics and what ALL meant and I was told that ALL meant ALL. That I could transfer every single file including the installed software. Is that true? Would I need a firewire 400 o 800? Thanks

  1. Yes, everything will transfer if migration assistant works properly. You will need a firewire cable that connects from the firewire port on one Mac to the firewire port on the other. So it may very well be a 400 to 800 cable, if your old one is 400 and your new is 800. Then run migration assistant and follow the instructions.

    Use wireless networking!

Got it! Thanks a lot. I am amazed at how painless the migration was. Again, thanks.
