MacMost Forum / Mix RAM pairs in a MacBook

Do you have to have matched pairs (1GB x 2 or 2GB x 2) in the Macbook laptops or is it possible to have 1GB x 1 and 2GB x 1 ?

I upgraded my other laptop to 6GB (4GB x 1 and 2GB x 1) and it works fine…. Thanks,

    It depends on which MacBook you have. The only way to know for sure whether you need to have matched pairs of RAM is to check the user manual that came with your MacBook. If you have misplaced it, you can find it here:
