Every finder window contains a sidebar element which I can’t seem to remove.
The offender is iPhone_iOS4_User_Guide.pdf
found just below “Movies”.
If I right click it I only get “Open Sidebar Prefs”. I can move it around in the queue but cannot drag it out or otherwise delete it. The file no longer exists on my Machine as evidenced by a “no items returned” spotlight search.
Any suggestions appreciated.

  1. That’s odd. I tested in Snow Leopard and when something is deleted from the Finder, and it has a Sidebar item, the Sidebar item is automatically deleted. Even if I sneak into Terminal and remove the file from there, the Finder seems to know about it and delete it.
Not sure how to correct this problem. Has it persisted even through a restart?
An extreme measure may be to throw away the Finder preferences to reset the Finder.

Persisted through restart? Oh yeah. Been there a long time.

Throw away finder prefs? Where do I find the file to trash?

Found the solution in the Apple forums Gary…
“If you’re running 10.6.7, dragging to remove from the sidebar changed: Try Cmd-dragging it off. ”

    Cmnd dragging did the trick!
