Hi Gary,

I have a friend with a MacBook (White) which he just replaced the battery (from Apple). When he starts it up, the gray screen with the Apple logo shows up. At the bottom of the screen there is a status bar that fills to about 20% AND then the MacBook shuts off….without ever fully booting up.

Any ideas as to what is going on? I have reset the PRAM already…..

Thanks!

  1. Sounds like a serious hardware issue to me. It is failing some stage of the boot up process. Try booting it up from the system DVD. If that doesn’t work, then it is definitely hardware. Take it in to the Genius Bar to have them look at it.

A trip to the Apple store revealed a hard rive failure. It was a recalled Seagate on…so they replaced the 80 GB with a 160GB and threw in a new keyboard setup!
