Ever since I downloaded Lion I am getting lots of question marks instead of accented letters and symbols in Firefox and Mail. What do I need to change?

Not sure. I haven't experienced any issues.
Perhaps check your System Preferences, Languages and Text pane?
Have you noticed any consistency between when it looks OK and when it does't?
Being in both Firefox and Mail is odd -- two different apps from different companies.
One site was RoadScholar (Elderhostel). Parts of that were ok, others had a ? for every apostrophe. I'm wondering if it has to do with the program the original material was created on. In mail its not personal messages, but TV show updates (Hardball's newsletter.) TMI I'm an old liberal!
Typically this happens when a site (or HTML message) says in the header that it uses one type of text encoding, but then in fact uses another in the body of the page. Maybe this is just a coincidence?
