My folders, including the one with all my books, have disappeared when I upgraded to iOS 5. I need them back. How can I restore them to my iPad?

Can you be more specific? iOS doesn't use the "folders" metaphor when it comes to documents. Do you mean app folders? Icons on the home screens that have a small collection of apps? Or some collection of documents inside of a particular app?
I do mean app folders. All my books via iBooks, Amazon and Nook were in one of the folders. Also, all my music is gone as well as most of the apps I had previously downloaded. If I go back into iTunes on my PC and click on Restore in the iOS5 update, can I get everything back?
I still don't know what it is you are seeing. iBooks books would appear in the iBooks app. Kindle books in the Kindle app Nook books in the Nook app. You wouldn't see them all in one folder together.
I seen this a lot and has happen to me before. It's a bug so to say. The fix is after every update or restore and your folders disappear. Plug the device in and on the sidebar where you see your device listed, right click and choose "restore from backup". This will work
Thanks. Gary--the apps were all in a folder labeled "Books". The folders all disappeared. I googled this problem and someone said to go into iTunes and there is a tab that says "purchased apps". All my apps, including the books, were there. I am reloading them one by one now. I do agree that this must be a bug with the iOS 5 upgrade and should be addressed by Apple.
Ah I see. Now that makes sense. It is just an app folder then. You just need to recreate it, which it seems you are on the way to do.
When I upgraded to ios5 the drafts folder in my e-email disappeared. Is it possible to retrieve those lost e-mails and restore that folder?
Were those drafts just on your iPhone? Not on your computer or any online system (web-based email?)
i used my iPhone Mail 'Drafts' folder for many items (to copy and paste into emails, etc). All saved draft messages as well as a month of journalling appear wiped out by the IOS5 "upgrade". And now draft messages i usually work on on the aubway are not available without a wi-fî connection? Ugh. This is due to the iCloud upsell being forced upon us? Yes I know I should have not trusted these to not be harmed, but the earlier upgrade was not so awfully destructive...
