The demo movies online look like FCP X is where I want to be. Especially saving clips with the cutaways et al in place. Please let me know what you think

I haven't tried it myself yet. I plan on getting into it later this summer. I'll do some video tutorials on it if it seems that it would interest many MacMost viewers
Here's a great article about Final Cut Pro X:

Prior to the release of FCP X I considered myself to be very proficient with iMovie. When I first heard about the pending release of FCP X I was anxious to see if could fit into my video editing workflow. When it was finally released I wanted to see what kind of feedback would be coming from the "wild". As I'm sure you have read, there is a lot of disappointment in various elements of the pro community. Since I do not consider myself a pro, I took what I read with a grain of salt. Last weekend I decided to take the plunge to see if it was a viable candidate to replace my use of iMovie. My initial reaction is WOW. Not only is it robust in functionality, it is also proficient in the use of hardware. FCP X is not as intuitive as iMovie (my opinion), however it does follow a similar input, editing and output process. As I discovered in my testing, there are many additional processes that make this software a winner for me. I am currently in the process of taking some of my more complex iMovie projects an converting them for use within FCP X. A word of caution....I do not recommend the application to a new iMovie user. However, if you consider yourself to be an intermediate or advanced iMovie user, then by all means consider making the move to FCP X.
Interesting. Thanks Ray. I can't wait to dig into FCPX myself.
