Apple TV 2 extremely slow when downloading HD movie

I’ve scoured the web, and have not found a definitive answer on why it is taking some apple TV 2 units 10 hours or more to download an HD movie. Have you heard anything about this?

Are you sure it is the units? I would suspect the connection, not the device. The only way to know for sure is if someone has 2 units on the same connection, and one has the problem and the other doesn't.
FWIW I've got an Apple TV 2 and have rented HD movies on it. No streaming issues. It usually starts after a minute of preloading, and then I watch the whole thing through so it must stay ahead of itself just fine.
Perhaps some ISPs are throttling. They detect a huge download and they pull back on the bandwidth.
    Are you experiencing the problem?

Well I tried to obtain info from my ISP but without any luck. What's puzzling is that I hooked up my original Apple TV and the downloads were almost instantaneous.

Same issue here and I posted a Question on Gary's forum as to my experience. This is clearly a recent issue. Also if you decline to watch at that time and choose to watch at a later time or day, the Apple TV re downloads the movie ALL OVER again instead of caching what it downloaded already. Hey the new Apple TV is great is other areas and I am loving it, but with rentals it is a FAIL!

One thought on this. Have you tried updating? There have been several Apple TV 2 software updates since its release. Perhaps some of those fixed bugs? Just a thought.

Thanks, Gary. Your website and your video casts have always been a great source of information. I think that, in a very unscientific way, the law of the technology averages have just finally caught up to me and my inventory of Apple products. I can't say that I've ever really experienced a tech problem with an Apple item, the way that I have with the 2nd gen Apple TV. I just can't get the darned thing to download without taking hours while my first gen Apple TV works like a charm. I've updated, tweaked, moved things around, all without any positive results. Oh well...
