AVCHD to iMovie

Hi Gary, I have been using a digital camera to record some event footage for a friend of mine but I want start using my camcorder since I want to record it in HD and using my digital camera for this isn’t the best option for me due to its battery & charging capabilities. Only problem I think I will have is getting it to my mac and editing it using iMovie to then upload onto youtube. As far as I am aware of, iMovie doesn’t support the AVCHD format my Sony camcorder exports. What is the best way to go about this? Should I use Final Cut Pro instead? could you advise me on whats the best option.
Thanks

Have you tried it? An update to iMovie a while ago was supposed to allow for this type of video to import.
Even if not, you can still convert the video. See episode 362 (http://macmost.com/importing-incompatible-video-into-imovie.html) for some suggestions.
Upgrading to Final Cut Studio is expensive, not only in $ but in time to learn professional level video editing software.
