Battery servicing message cause for alarm bells?

My Energy Saver says ‘Service Battery. Battery is charged’
I ran down my battery yesterday to 0 and then recharged but message still shows. Battery cycle count is 323, macbook is 14 months old. Do I need to worry?
Also, I want a completely clean desktop(No icons), so wanna delete the Mackintosh HD icon that is there. Is it safe to delete it and not lose anything?

Worry? I don't know about that. It sounds like something is wrong with the battery. 323 isn't old, but it isn't young either.
Is it one of the old-style MacBooks with a removable battery? Or the new one with the battery permanently trapped inside? If the latter, I would have it checked out. It should last longer. But the old removable ones -- I used to replace those every year myself because of heavy use.
On the other hand, if it works, just keep using it. Keep an eye on it and think about replacing it soon, that's all.
You can't delete the Mac HD icon from the desktop. Use Finder, Preferences, General. Look for "Show these items on the desktop."
