i have a chart with many bars, each having a label on the x axis. how do i change the orientation of the text so its vertical or 45 degree so its readable? text box works…but not automatic for each point in the series. thanks

Not sure if this is what you mean, but you can select the labels along the x-axis and rotate them. Just select the x-axis labels and make sure that is all that is selected. Then use the Metrics inspector to set the rotation. I was able to have those labels at 45 or 90 degree angles, or anything I wanted.
Not sure what you mean by "not automatic for each point" -- when I did it all of the labels on the x-axis were set to the angle.
