I had a 3rd party virus scanner installed, and have since deleted it. The icon will not go away from the menu bar. I’ve tried the drag and drop, no joy, Ive searched for it in my library, but cant find any mention of it anywhere.
Any ideas from the clever squad out there ?
By the way I’m not very good with scripts etc. so a simple step by step response is needed !!!
Thanks

Did you delete it, or uninstall it? It sounds like you deleted it. Try doing a proper uninstall. I'd start by looking at the support site for the software. See if they have uninstall instructions. If not, ask. It may involve downloading the installer again, running it, and choosing an uninstall option that is often in installers.
Thanks for the quick response. Just downloaded the Intego uninstaller, did the necessary, but icon is still in the menu bar !!!! Any other suggestions ? By the way it was initially a free trial that i downloaded from the internet, so i dont have any disks etc. with the program
Contact their support or browse any support info on their site.
What anti-virus did you download? I once downloaded Virus-barrier and later deleted it and found that I must have had some orphan files, because like you, I had icon in menu bar. The truth is "most" apps for Mac OS X you can just throw in the trash, but some larger app, especially apps that like to run in the background, usually have "support" files associated with them, located in your user/library or system library folder. But going find all those files can be a hassle if you not sure where to find. So redownload the Application from the developer and in the .dmg file there should be a "install" package and a "uninstall" package. Obviously click the "uninstall", run and reboot.
maybe what you could do is install the software all over again, and than after it is insalled open the .dmg file and run the uninstall package. Maybe because you have already deleted the app and trying to run the uninstaller maybe does not catch everything.
BTW, those Anti-Virus applications for Mac IMO are no good:)
Hi, I subsequently found that I also had Netupdate on my mac as well which was being supported by the icon. I've since uninstalled that app as well and the icon has disappeared.
Yes, I read that the app was not much good, hence deleting it !!
Thanks for your response
The support site requires that I input the registration, which I did not do, so I cant access their service. Is their a way in my mac that I can delete this icon ?
You can, but you have to know what is causing it to be there. There is some component still installed on your Mac. If you were a software engineer you could probably look through your system Library files and make guesses. But otherwise you need to get the company to tell you want you need to delete.
Thanks all, all sorted now.
