Fonts not working in Pages

Why do some fonts which Font Book says are valid, and Text Edit will use with no problem NOT work in Pages?

Hard to say. What is different about these fonts? Are they a different format? Are they from one source? Do they work in other programs like TextEdit?
And what do you mean by "not work" -- do they show up as a choice, but then something unexpected happens when you try to choose them?
My suspicion would be that they are older formats of those fonts (some ancient postscript format or some such) that Mac OS X supports in general (the fonts load) but that Pages does not.

I have not yet discerned what's different about them. Have not yet made a complete inventory.

By work, I mean display in Pages as they display in Font Book.

They do display properly in Text Edit as far as I've checked. That's what confused me. I thought at first the fonts were "bad" (corrupted, or invalid in some way), but FontBook says they're valid and they work in Text Edit.

The two I just found in a quick check are TrueType.
They are Euphemia UCAS and Christie.

I guess I need to do a more diligent study of my fonts to find the problem.

I'm having kind of the same problem.

If I write a document in Pages and save it as .doc, some fonts looks strange in Word. For instance Arial Bold or Verdana Bold. Helvetica works fine.

If I make another document in Textedit and save this as a .doc, everything looks fine in Word.

Im running iMac i7 from dec 2010, so its kind of brandnew

    Any ideas
