Getting a small amount of ghosting on my iMac screen

Have been getting a small amount of ghosting on my iMac screen in the top left hand corner. This is apparent when I go onto pages or applications with white or pale backgrounds of solid colour. The shape is random and does not seem to be ghosting from any other reoccurring shape that is on my screen for any amount of time.
Is there a way of getting rid of this without having to look at replacing the LCD (software or something)?
I have a 21.5 inch late 2009 iMac.

Can't really tell what it is without seeing it. Take a screen shot of your entire screen and look at it. I'd take it in to he Genius Bar and have them look.

    Hi Chris

It seems that we suffer from exactly the same symptom which I have already mentioned here, in MacMost forum (see "Dark spot/stain on iMac screen", posted on 18/4/2011). As you may realize, you are not the only one... I don't really believe that you can find a logical solution other than having your screen replaced by authorized Apple technicians, unless you want to give it a try in case you have the "touch" (check: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-iMac-Intel-21-5-Inch-Display/1764/1). In case you select the "Apple" solution, I would be glad if you would let me know what they think the cause of the problem is.
    Kind regards
    Jim
