How Can I Create New Apple Id for My iPad and iPhone?

I recently bought an iPad2 and iPhone4 and asked to create an Apple id. Then,i sent the iPad to my son in the Philippines as Christmas gift. He changed the Apple id and password and used his own and naturally, that changes the iPhone’s also. And now,i want to have my own Apple id for my iPhone. How can i change/create a new Apple id without affecting the iPad’s?

So it sounds like your son didn't change the Apple ID, but kept using it, but altered some of the things about it. If he created his own Apple ID and changed the iPad's setting to use that, then you could keep using your iPhone.
Or, you should simply create your own Apple ID and change your iPhone to use that one.
Either way, one of you needs to create a second ID and change your device to use that ID, instead of sharing a single ID.
You can create a new one here:
    http://appleid.apple.com
An Apple ID is very important. It is connected to lots of things: iCloud (mail, calendar, contacts), iTunes purchases, app store purchases, iBooks, etc. So be careful when making these changes. Make sure whoever creates a new one changes everything on their device to reflect using that new ID. Look in Settings for iCloud, Mail, Calendar, Contacts, iTunes, and the App Store app.

This raises a question for me. I have two apple ids that I have used in the past (I know - not a good idea - but I had no idea that we would be dealing with the iCloud in the future). My question is "with my MBP, iPhone and iPad is it going to be a problem that I have made app and music purchases with both ids." I purchased 1Password Pro for the iPad and iPhone with my secondary iTunes id because it had money in it, but now I want to use my primary id from now on with all devices. Have I mucked things up too badly?

Just pick one ID and use that moving forward for everything. You should still be able to use the apps you got from your other ID, though you may need to switch to that other ID to updates or such.

my boyfriend has the iphone 4 and i just bought him an ipad 2 for xmas everytime we try to register it under his email account it says its already taken because its registered to his phone. we registered it to my email but want to change it back to his. is there a way to do that so he can use the icloud?

Sounds like maybe you are trying to create a new account rather than just sign in to an existing one. Go through the process slowly and read everything to make sure you choose the right path. Visit the Genius Bar if you need help.

I bought this new iphone last month from Mumbai, but the thing is that apple is already there in as X, everytime when password is asked I give the new password I create but couldn't open it.

You need to remove that Apple ID. Simply log out of it in what ever app or setting is asking. Check through all your settings and Sign Out wherever you see it.

We have two iPhone 4 but now I have bought an ipad2 and with the new iOS 5 and cloud our contacts and the like are getting muddled together is there anyway I can get a new apple I'd and keep the apps I have purchased with the shared id? Can we do it with home sharing?

Yes, you should have separate IDs. Yes, you can use Home sharing to share apps between your devices.

I also have 2 apple id's and purchased apps on both. Problem? One of them is tied to my old .mac account. What will happen when I try to update apps purchased .mac account post June 20th, 2012?

You mean June 30, when MobileMe shuts down? An Apple ID is different than MobileMe. Apple IDs apply to all sorts of things: iTunes, Apple Store, iBookstore, etc. Nothing will happen to that Apple ID other than the MobileMe account features disappearing.

My applied ID has been my @msn email address. That account was deactivated when I tried to log in too many times with the wrong password. Now I can't update my apps with that ID. What should I do? Btw, that ID has $$ in the account.

Why not just call Apple and have them re-activate the account?

        Mary Ellen George

Msn deactivated it. I just made an app purchase successfully so perhaps I'm still ok.

So MSN deactivated your email address -- the one you use as your Apple ID. You'll want to log into your Apple ID account ASAP and change the email address to the one you currently use. Otherwise you could lose your whole account.

I have an Apple ID that I use for my iPad. My class has now gotten 10 iPads for the students to use and I want to add some apps onto those iPads. The IT dept told me to use my Apple ID, but I'd like to keep my personal and school accounts separate. Can I create a second Apple ID using the same email but a different user name and password?

Apple IDs use email addresses as the ID. So ID = email address. You'll need to use a second email address to create another ID. Perhaps a free Gmail one, or better yet just create an account and get a free iCloud (me.com) email address.

If I sign out from my iPad (to change the apple ID) will I lose the apps? Like, will they get disabled upon signing in with a different ID?

Sign out from where, exactly? The App Store? No. They will still be there.

        Thalia Fehr

Like if I were to change to another apple ID everywhere where an apple ID is required on my iPad, would everything remain the same and be available for use once I sign in with the other ID?

Well, no. Things would change relative to your account. For instance, your iTunes match content would change to the new account. Your Game Center account would be different. Things like that. But apps wouldn't just remove themselves -- they'd still be there. Why don't you try it an see? But of course things work much better if you simply have one Apple ID account. I strongly recommend that you only use one so everything works smoothly.

My husband bought a new iPad, and I have one too. I set it up for him using my mac laptop and use his email and a password for his apple id. The problem is when I almost finish with the process started sync my music with his iPad, and now if he want to use his apple I'd, the one that shows is mine. What can I do to change that so he can use his own apple id but doesn't erase mine when I use my iPad?

So it sounds like you are using separate IDs but the same Mac account and same iTunes library. It will always be difficult if you do that. Set up a second user on your Mac for him (or have him use his own Mac or PC to sync if he has one).
Otherwise, you can continue to do it this way. Just go into each app (Mail, iTunes, App Store, iBooks, Messages, etc) and check the account settings to see where it is set wrong. It gets complex but you can set things up any way you like them if you try hard enough.

    Hey, Gary!
I had to make a new apple ID when the old one wouldn't let me download any apps, free apps or updates etc.etc. And I've made sure that I'm signed in with my new ID on iCloud, App Store app etc, but whenever I try to download a free app or an update it says my Apple ID is deactivated. I might have done something really stupid when I deactivated the old Apple ID, but when it was still active, just not signed in, the apps required me to sign in on my old one... So now I can't download ANYTHING at ALL. And I deleted all my apps to see if it would work when I tried to download them again for the updates with my new apple ID, but it didn't.
I'm scared I've really ruined for myself and my dear iPhone at this moment. Please help me!!!

can i sign in my Apple ID on another ipad, like the one that belongs to my mum, and use it on her ipad? also, can increate another apple id for ibookstore as mine does not give me access to the USA ibookstore. my mom's was created with USA as location and she has access to all the books. its country specific!

You can add multiple accounts in several apps: Mail, for instance. You can only be signed into one at a time in the App Store and iTunes apps, which makes sense. Different content is available in different countries depending on the licensing details. If the owner of a book, app or song doesn't want it on sale in a certain country, then they can restrict its access.

Ok my problem is that befor I tried to buy anything on the App Store I put 75$ iTunes gift cards on my account well I can't use that account because I don't know my email address password/security questions so I have to make another is there any way to bring my funds to the new I'd?

So you used a $75 certificate and you can't remember anything about the account -- ID, password, anything? Not sure there is any way to deal with that. Call Apple and see what you can work out, but I wouldn't hope for anything.

My family and I use my appleid to make purchase. i want to restrict everyones access to my contacts and emails. how do i accomplish this? Will creating a different icloud account work?

Since you are using one Apple ID for everything, then you've got trouble there. If you create a second Apple ID then you'll always be switching between them and that will be a pain. Really, everyone should have their own Apple ID. But if you want to stick to your current plan, maybe change your password and log out everywhere. Set up everyone else's iCloud account to not use your Apple iD, or at least not use Contacts and Emails. Then you'll need to be the person to enter in the password every time anyone needs to purchase an app or music or a book. It will be a pain any way you set it up. Sharing an Apple account is a pain -- that's why everyone over 12 should have their own.

There are many many ways to set it up. If your kids are under 13 they can have their own accounts anyway. You'll need to set the iPads up as yours and manage things together.

I would go into every section of the Settings app and check for that bad Apple ID. It will be in many places. Sign out of it wherever you find it. If that doesn't work you may need to take it to an expert to have it checked out.

I have an Apple ID (my personal email address)on an old iTunes account I used for an old iPod. I bought my hubby his first iPhone(not activated yet)and want to order a family iPad for Christmas. I hope to update my phone to an iPhone in a few months. How should I manage setting up ID's on the new devices? Should each device have it's own Apple ID? Will they be able to access purchases on my iTunes account if they have different ID's. Can all this be managed in iCloud? How does this work?

One person = one Apple ID. So not device, but person. If you have a family device, just decide who the primary user will be and use that Apple ID. Use Mac/PC Home Sharing to transfer apps to other devices for free, though often it is easier to just buy a 99 cent app a second time.

No. Get your own Apple ID. Use your own email address to create your own Apple ID and iTunes Account. Apple ID = iTunes Account.

My daughter's iPod was set up by her mother using her mothers credit card. This means I cannot buy her any apps or download any books etc (my wife and I are separated so getting her mothers password is out of the question). How can I buy my daughter apps, books, whatever, etc for her iPod? Should I create a second apple ID?

Creating a second Apple ID would lead to more problems. Perhaps just buy her an iTunes gift card? But if the problem is that you don't have the password for her Apple ID/iTunes account, then that won't matter.I don't have a solution for you. Perhaps create a new Apple ID/iTunes account for her (not a second account, but her ONLY account) that is yours, and then work it out between her mother for joint control, perhaps feeding it with funds from iTunes gift cards.

Hi Gary, you have a wonderful board here and help so many people!
Currently my wife has an iphone and ipad and a few months ago we bought our kids (10 & 12) iphones. Currently, they are all set up with the same apple id. If I were to create new id's for the kids, what will they lose? What are the con's of leaving them on the same account? For instance, find my iphone allows us to view all phones. Thanks for the help!

You have to be 13 to qualify for an Apple ID.
If they have made any apps purchases and then switch Apple IDs, then they will need that old ID to update those apps. Other things like that. Other than that it is just a matter of managing settings for iCloud, iTunes, GameCenter and other apps that use an Apple ID. They switch and they are now using a different account and those apps will reflect the changes.

Here's my dilemma. I used to share an AppleID with my ex. We split yada yada we stayed on the same one for a while but she changed the password. If I create a new AppleID on my phone, will all my songs (about 420) and apps (dont really have alot) be transferred to a laptop once I buy one? Or will I lose everything?

You will lose everything. But songs are not copy-protected, so if you have copies of the physical files you will still be able to play them. Apps too, though you won't be able to update them. But your new ID won't show them as "purchased" of course.
Makes sense if you think about it. You bought ONE copy of these things. If you both you and your ex get them, then there are really TWO copies, which you didn't buy.
Yet another reason why every needs to remember: One person = One Apple ID.

I can't download any apps on my iPhone 4 because I forgot my Apple id password and my security question answers and my password to the other address that they send your password to if you forget it. Is my only option to create a new Apple id using completely new email addresses? c

New? If you don't have an Apple ID, then set one up the first time you need to. If you already have one, then use that one. Don't try to create a second one.
