How Do I Close a Web Page If There Is No Small “X” In the Title Bar (not Even a Hidden One) and There Is No Back Arrow Option?
I am using el capitan and safari and often, when I open up a few web pages, one on top of another, I get a page that does not allow me to close it, nor can I see a web address. To get out of it, I have to close all of Safari, thus losing all of my underlying pages. I then have to go back to the History tab to find my earlier pages.

There should always be a red close button at the top left of a browser window. Are you saying that you don't see the toolbar at all, not even the address field?
Could it be something besides a browser window? You will get alerts from time to time with OK or OK/Cancel buttons. Or, maybe it is a floating web page element on top of the content of the current page you are viewing -- not a separate window at all.
