How do I connect my MacBook to my flat screen TV?

What do I need to do this.

It depends. What kind of inputs does your TV have? How about the video out from your MacBook?
For instance, if it have a MacBook with a mini DisplayPort out, and a TV with a RGB input, then you'll need a series of cables and adapters to go from one to the other. You can Go mini DisplayPort to DVI, then DVI to RGB. Or, perhaps you have a VGA port on your TV. Then the mini DisplayPort to VGA would do it, plus probably an extension so it will reach.
There's no magic to it. You just need to look at what you have and then look at cables and adapters you can buy to get from one to the other.
