How Do I Disregard Faces That I Don’t Want In the New Photos App?

I am having trouble with seeing the same faces every time I go to a new person and add faces to that person. In the prior version I would select “not a face” and I would never see that face again.

I'm not sure of the steps you are using here, so it is hard to advise. When I go to the "People" section of the Photos app on my Mac, and then select a person, and then choose "Confirm Additional Photos" I will get a parade of images with suspected face matches. I can click Yes or No. If I click No, then that image never appears again when trying to "Confirm Additional Photos" for that person.
If I am just viewing Photos normally, and a face is recognized by I haven't confirmed it to match anyone yet, then I see a "unnamed" under that face. If I move my cursor over it, I get a circle with an X button. If I click that X button, then the circle and the "unnamed" label disappear and I am never bothered with trying to identify that face again.

    Hi Gary,
First, I want to thank you for all your apple advise! I watch all your videos and mail. In regards to these faces. I do what you are saying but, when I go to another face, it seems I get all those faces again. I take a lot of family pictures and many are in public places with many strange faces that I wish I could select "not a face" or something similar. Since I upgraded, I guess I will have to go back to all my family faces and process each one again. I guess that should work.

In addition, I was thinking of creating a new face called "junk" and putting all the faces I don't need in there. What is your advice on this idea? I am thinking you might tell me not to do that and go through each family face and reprocess them instead?

Jim: So you tried both of my suggestions and even the second one didn't work? It seems like that should do the trick. Maybe try it again and see. I wouldn't create a "Junk" face -- doesn't seem like a clean solution to me. Try my second suggestion (view photo, hit the X to remove the circle).

Does anyone know what Apple does with all these (sometimes geo-tagged) faces, particularly when they are matched to Contacts entries?

I know Apple has said in the past that when they have access to our Contacts (i.e., if you use Siri, so they can "improve" it) that they do not use the names for anything else...

JF: It doesn't appear that this face-recognition data is stored anywhere outside of your own library, which is encrypted when stored in the cloud.
