How Do I Find an Application That’s Sort Of There?

I used to have SyncMate installed on my Mac to sync with an old smartphone I used to have. After I got rid of the phone, I deleted SyncMate, or at least I thought I did. I was just over on the Guest account of my MacBook Air when SyncMate popped up telling me it was time to sync. I promptly switched over to my administrator account to delete it, but even a Finder search came up empty. How did it manage to stick around, and where is it hiding?

It sounds like you just deleted the application in the applications folder, maybe, instead of "uninstalling" it with any uninstaller that the company provided.
I would check in the System Library folder, maybe in Application Support. I'd also look at your Login Items for each account.
But to be sure you've gotten everything, I would return to the web site for the developer of that software and see if you can find (or contact them) any uninstall instructions.
