How to compress large DVDs into single layer?

Hey Gary,

Disk Utility is greta for backing up previously burned DVDs, but I’m looking for a software that can do what DVDshrink does for Windows(creates the less than 4.7 GB ISO)…take a full length original dvd, preferably break the region code, and back it up with compression so that I can burn onto a single layer blank disk….my Macbook can’t write to dual layer dvds.

Sorry, I don't know of anything that can do this. Even if there is something, it sounds like a ton of work to make a copy of a DVD. I suppose you can use Handbrake to rip the DVD, and then Toast or something like it to create a new DVD from the video content. But a lot of work. And illegal.
