How To Stitch Together Two Images?

Short of using Photoshop or some big photo app, is there some way to put together two images, like two screen grabs, into one image?
I don’t think Preview can do it.

You can do it in Preview. The basics are in this episode: http://macmost.com/cutting-out-objects-in-images-using-preview.html
The trick is to get Preview to give you a canvas that is the right size. For instance, you could open a large image (photo, screen grab) and then clear it out. Then copy and paste the two images into the now-blank canvas. Then trim it to size and save it as a new document.
You could always use an alternative to a "big photo app." I've been trying to ween myself off of Photoshop by using Pixelmator more. Seashore is a good free choice.

Thanks. It's more of a speed issue than price. Preview launches near instantly. Even with a SSD, photoshop requires a bit of waiting for the app to launch, settle, and then load an image. Do this a few times a day and it gets annoying.

I use Photoshop, and i do not wait. In Photoshop, you resize the first image canvas size. Measure the second image, adjust the first image size, then you drag the photo into the empty space. Then you flatten the image. You can do the same with Seashore, and it`s free has Gary has said.
