Hi Gary – is there a way to bulk close all open apps on the iPhone 4 and iPad 2? I know there are no issues with them being open, but I like a clean slate every once in awhile, and closing the apps individually takes some time. Thanks.

As far as I know, there isn't. But you can always do a quick shut down and restart.
I have tried Shutting down and restarting the iPhone and iPad and also a hard reboot. But both don't close any background running apps. They are all still running.
You're right. It used to. But now it seems iOS 4 has a "resume" feature like Lion where all running apps are re-launched.
