Can I have my iPhone back up on my MacBook as well as on iCloud ?
Currently it’s only backed up on computer. If I set it to back up to iCloud, will the computer backup stay or get deleted. Can backups be in both places ?

You can have backups in both places. If you switch to iCloud backups, then those will happens automatically in place of your locally-stored backups. But if you Control+Click on your iPhone in iTunes when it is connected to your Mac, then you can choose to manually backup to your Mac.
So just remember to do that occasionally and you've got both backups.
