iPhone Flash Drive

Hi Gary, love your site! I upgraded from an ipod nano 3gen to an itouch 2gen. The feature to use the ipod as a flashdrive is gone. How can I reenalbe this feature on my ipod touch? Thanks Gary!

iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad) don't have this ability. There are various apps that you can buy that will allow you to store files on your iPod Touch, though, usually over a wifi connection. Air Sharing comes to mind.

It seems like a waste of a good feature though, why would apple rid us of this?

The old iPods are like hard drives with an interface to play music. The iOS devices are computers. Can you use your computer as a Flash drive? It must get complex as the OS on a computer likes to control the comings and goings of files. Having some sort of direct interface to files in storage could create issues that Apple wanted to avoid.
