We are trying to move files from an older macbook to our new imac, music and pictures.
Via the Migration Assistant we cant find the files on the imac after the transfer, and via our Time Capsule it tells us that the account are allready in use and therefor cant give us access?
The macbook is about 2 1/2 – 3 years old and the imac brand new……
What to do??

Very hard to tell without a first-hand look. But have you checked to see if you transferred the user account to a new user account on the Mac? So it is simply a matter of logging out of the account you are in now, and logging into the account you just created by the transfer? That's my guess.
Would you please tell me which cable I need to transfer video and jpeg files from my MacBook to my Imac? Much appreciated.

Are your two computers on the same network? If so, then just turn on fire sharing for each and transfer them over the network.

My related questions is : I have an iMac and Notebook and would like to synchronise the two -especially iPhoto. I was overseas on a voluntary assignment and ended up with thousands of photos on my Notebook which I want to download onto the iMac. My attempt to add to the iMac iPhoto was rather disastrous and required some heavy cleaning out of added duplicate files. There is other software and other files that I would like to download to the iMac. Fundamentally I would also like to use the iMac as the primary device and the Notebook as a portable clone that I can travel around with, and then download back onto the iMac when I get home.
You may want to look into one of the 3rd-party apps that merges iPhoto libraries. I've never used one, so I son't have any specific recommendations.
