I have just 3 widgets on my dashboard but when I start the dashboard, there’s always a lag before it ready.Is this due to 2gb RAM? Will upgrading to 4 gb make it load faster, say, even if I have Photoshop on? I have a Macbook 13.

Memory probably doesn't have anything to do with it. There usually is a lag the first time you run Dashboard. Often the widgets need to contact resources on the net and that takes time. Each widget is like a web page, so think of it as opening 3 safari windows at the same time. It depends on which ones you have running. It should launch much faster after that first time.
You can determine if you need more memory by running the Activity Monitor. See episode 390:
