Motion 4 crashes. Any idea why?

Hi Gary,
Previously when I first installed the newest FC studio I was able to run through and work on some projects and tutorials in motion (all of this after I had already upgraded to Snow Leopard). But now, for the past week, I try and open Motion and the welcome screen comes up and then I pick the project preset and then it all of the sudden crashes. I need to finish a portfolio/reel project by Tuesday. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Please desperate for assistance! This is only a Motion 4 issue. FCP, color, soundtrack pro, DVD studio all work properly (for now). I know that there are some issues with opening motion projects from previous versions and snow leopard but all I have ever worked on is in motion 4. Any idea on how to fix this issue?!?

What i would do is to backup and delete the applications preference file. See if that fixes it.

Hey Gary, I am looking in the library under application support final cut studio and I am not finding any preference file. Is there any other way I can find it? I haven't moved anything. It's all still where it was installed to. Is there another name by chance?

        Since I don't have Motion 4, I can't help there. But I'd look in user/Library/Preferences for something like com.apple.motionXXX

That didn't work either. Thanks for offering your assistance.

Normally I'd suggest contacting the developer. But in this case it may be tough. You might want to go to a Genius Bar, but I'm not sure how much they would know about Motion. Still, they might be helpful. Did you try the Motion discussion forum at http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=656

I went to apple's website and downloaded the newest pro applications update and tried that. It did not work. However, 30 minutes later, my software update went off on its weekly update and the pro application update was on there and some how it managed to fix the issue. Weird yes, but I will take it. Thanks for your guidance. Love the video podcast keep up the great work.

Hi I am having the same problem its driving me nuts...every time I try to load motion it crashes. I will try the down load solution. By the way the preference folder is in the general library. Hi the finder button then open the Mackintosh HD and you will find the library ect. I hope this helps?

Thank you Scott Adams (above) for posting the fix to the Motion 4 crashing problem on my MACBOOK PRO! To recap: anyone with a crashing Motion 4 should update their PRO APPLICATIONS -- see here: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20016685-263.html.
This update took 5 minutes and all is well now!! (I tried other suggestions on a dozen other sites first and reinstalled a dozen times to futile results. This was what worked!)

Thank you for this posting! Why was this not included in the software update list? Why did the Apple Care folks not know of the update or point me in the right direction? Their suggested solution was to reinstall, which, as has been pointed out, does not resolve the crash issue. When I queried the Apple support search bar it did not come up with it, - What is up with that?
Finally a Google search found your posting.
