Gary I Upgraded a iPad 2 Wifi Only iPad to iOS 5 and still I see no Airplay Mirroring Option on iPad 2.
It only shows the Apple Tv and after selecting it too, there is no Mirroring of or on !
What do I need to do ?

Where are you looking for it? It isn't where you would find AirPlay for media playback (music, videos).
To mirror your screen over AirPlay, you simply double-tap the Home button. Then swipe left to right once to get to the controls section (play button, brightness, volume, etc). Then tap the AirPlay button there to turn on mirroring.
Of course you need to have the latest version of the Apple TV software on an Apple TV 2 (not 1). Then you need to enable there in the Settings, I believe.
i have the iPad 2 & apple tv 2 both the OS updated. i can airplay from iTunes and photos, but not my iPad. How to do it?
Did you follow the instructions above? If so, did the AirPlay button not appear?
Thanks Garry it worked
Thanks it all worked after I updated the apple tv 2.
I'm using a mac (10.6.8) and an ipad2 (4.33). I see the airplay button but there's no mirroring option to select with the device.
AirPlay mirroring works with newer Macs running 10.8 and newer iPads running iOS 6 -- so you can't use that now with either of your devices.
Is the apple TV is required to see the airplay option or we can see that option on iPad?
If there is no device to send AirPlay mirroring TO, then the option won't appear.
