I need to get some songs and books off of an old ipod and in to my new itunes library. Is there any way to do that? Is there a reliable, free program to allow this?

The last time I looked into this, "reliable" was not a word to describe what I found. Most of the free stuff (and pay stuff) would give you songs with no data or title and you had to sort through numbered files.
Your best bet is to go back to the source (CD you ripped or re-download from the site you bought them from, etc).
