Safari Bookmarks Not Syncing With iCloud

Hi Gary, is it because I am running snow leopard that my safari bookmarks are not syncing from safari to my iPhone? I have iCloud enabled for bookmarks on my iPhone and am running the latest version of safari.

If you are using Snow Leopard, then you can't be using iCloud. At least not on that Mac. So if your iPhone is running iCloud but your Mac isn't, then that explains it.

It looks like iTunes eliminated the ability to sync bookmarks now without using iCloud. I can no longer do it.

Well it is also a matter of you using two different server services. If your Mac is using MobileMe and your iPhone is using iCloud, then they are just syncing with different things.

Yes, but I USED TO be able to do this prior to the iTunes update that included iCloud. Now if I want to sync bookmarks again, I have to update my computer to Lion.

Before your two devices were using the same service: MobileMe. Bookmarks would sync from your Mac to MobileMe to your iPhone. And vice versa. But now you are using one service with one (MobileMe with your Mac) and one with the other (iCloud). So bookmarks can sync from your Mac to MobileMe, and from iCloud to your iPhone. So there is no connection. See? If you left both at MobileMe it would work, and if you updated your Mac to use iCloud it would work. But right now they are both talking to different things.

I have a number of issues with iCloud these days.

I'm using iCloud on both my desktop and laptop machines and recently I noticed bookmarks are no longer syncing. In an effort to get things to work I checked to make sure everything was syncing to the right account. I had an old .mac address on one machine and that was converted to a .me address when ever Mac made the integration, but they're suppose to work as the same address. They're now the same but they still do not sync.

Also, my iPad and iPhone will not change over to the .me address. Each time I try they just go back to .mac. And, my iPad has started crashing a lot. Applications will open and then immediately close.

I'm not sure what's going on but lately my Mac tools are not working or syncing normally anymore. I can only imagine what "Mountain Lion" may have in store for us.

        Any suggestions?

I would try to sort out the problem with the two different Apple IDs. Go into your Apple ID account online and update it so you me.com address is account ID, so everything is the same. Maybe that will help.

Folks, there's been great progress on the iCloud-Snow Leopard syncing front. If you've not seen this, here is the was I used to sync my Snow Leopard macs, and my iPhone with iCloud for Safari Bookmarks, Address Book, iCal and Mail: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57511534-263/how-to-set-up-icloud-services-in-snow-leopard/

It's not infallible — you only get to sync one mac w/bookmarks — but otherwise it's utterly golden.

    Good luck!
