Syncing Contacts on iPad

I mostly use Gmail and my contacts are up to date on my iPad. But when I select a photo and tap to email it, the address book that is being used is the address book for the Mac Mail program. I have Gmail as my default account in Settings, and for the From on the email created, that shows correctly, but it still uses the Mail contact list, which has not been synchronized from Gmail since I first set it up apparently. What am I not doing, please?

Not sure. Just a matter of having to check and re-check everything. I don't have the same setup as you do, so it is hard for me to try to find a solution.
I assume you want to try to sync your gmail and Mac Mail contacts, and that this would solve the issue? If so, concentrate on getting them to sync. That would be the way I would go.

I deleted my entire Mac Address Book and reimported it from Gmail, and now it's synced on the iPad. Is there no way to automatically sync from Gmail to Mac Mail?

On your Mac, run Address Book. Look in Preferences, under Accounts, Account Information. You can configure it to sync with Google.
