The Change To Lion

I have had my Mac for 1 1/2 years now and feel that I have much to learn when it comes to using Snow Leopard. Would you recommend that I purchase the Lion software or continue to learn with Leopard until I feel proficient? I do not want to get ahead of myself. Thank you for your great website and helpful information

Ultimately, you have to make the decision yourself. But here are some things to think about:
First, Leopard/Snow Leopard and Lion are not that different. There are some new things in Lion, but the basics are the same. Think of them like cars. Snow Leopard is the 2009 model. Lion is the 2011. There are some new switches, and the dashboard looks a little different, but the steering wheel, brake, gas pedal and transmission control are still the same. You don't need to learn how to drive again.
Second, they don't need to be consecutive experiences, like 5th grade and 6th grade. You don't need to learn one before the other. Someone learning how to use a computer for the first time today, if they choose a Mac, would learn on Lion. They don't need to know Snow Leopard first.
So the idea of becoming proficient in Snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion doesn't make sense to me. You wouldn't be getting ahead of yourself. You'd just be learning things you don't need to learn. Like learning the windshield washer controls on a 2009 car, when the 2011 has them in a different spot.

Yes i thought the same, that it would be totally different. I am using Snow Leopard, and has you say some things are different. I have not even used Automator yet. To me its not that important. Its the same has the key short cuts. I do not use them. I just need to know the important ones. Thanks Gary for enlightening me between the two.

I had no choice, because i had a faulty iMac,and it had been sent away 4 times to get the screen replaced. I was sick of contacting Apple about this fault, and i got the legal eagles in. They would be going to court for sure. They talked to them straight away, and sure enough they sent me a brand new iMac. Forget what i said above. It had the Lion system on it,and it is a nightmare. It`s a bit like Harry Potter`s magic. I thought it would be not that much different. I am definitely going back to Snow Leopard. I spent about 10years learning the Tiger and Snow Leopard. I am coming up to 64yrs old,and i have had enough.
