I purchased a Verizon locked ipad 2 from the USA, would it be possible to operate this device on the 3g networks in South Africa or would we be confined to wifi?

Hard to say. I just don't know anything about the networks in South Africa. Call your 3G provider and ask them if they know. I'm guessing not, as the controls for buying 3G bandwidth are tied to Verizon.
Thanks Gary.
None of our 3 major networks (Vodacom, MTN, Cell C) support this product so I will probably have to exchange for the AT&T version. We are still on 3G networks and none of our providers utilise CDMA technology.
Hi Zaheer. What happened with your ipad? i have the same problem. Can still use wi fi option or connect via 3G router.
