    WOL? Wake-On-LAN?
If the Mac is shut down, it is shut down. It won't be listening for a wake up. They have to be in sleep mode.
I don't think there is any way to have a Mac start up when signaled over the network.

I am now running Mountain Lion but since I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion and now Mountain Lion I have been unable to get my iMac to wake on LAN or wireless. I use a non Apple wireless router.
I used to be able to use TeamViewer from a remote site and wake up my iMac and operate it.
Are you able to guide me as to how to get WOL working again.

Sorry, I don't know what to suggest. I don't use that feature, so I have no experience with it. Maybe try resetting that (off and then on again). Also, my instincts tell me a PRAM reset might help.
