An easier way is to pull out the metal connector by rotating it counterclockwise while pulling it. It worked for me. No need to buy anything.

how did you pull on the metal connector, let alone do it while rotating counterclockwise?

I have addapted my headphone jacks by cutting with a scissors little of the plastic on around the connector. Just enough for it to fit. Works fine, no need to buy anything.
