No. iCloud has Photo Stream, but that has nothing to do with your particular problem.

That’s bad news. You let your old computer go without copying your files? Ouch.
The photos on your iPhone are your originals, but much smaller versions for viewing on the iPhone screen. No way to sync in the other direction — it isn’t meant to work that way. You can email them to yourself, but remember they are smaller versions, not your originals. I doubt O2 will be able to help you with this.
You can’t be a technophobe and own a computer and iPhone. That would be like being arachnophobic and keeping pet spiders in your pocket. :)

Thanks for speedy response – i no longer have the old computer. Is there any way at all that I can retrieve the photos from photo library in old phone to sync on my new laptop? Im with o2 – is it worth a visit to store to see if they can transfer?

You need to get those pictures from your old computer to your new one. Don’t do it “though” the iPhone. It doesn’t work that way.

Hi,

I have just upgraded my iphone 3gs to a 4s and I am trying to sync my ‘photo library’ pictures to laptop. With no joy. Those pics that were already on my laptop and those from my camara roll are all ok but not those from my photo library. I had a different pc when I 1st had my iphone 3gs – not sure if this makes any difference??

I would use an app. Perhaps Dropbox or AirSharing or something like that. Even GoodReader may be an option.

Not sure if this has been addressed previously..
I have a quantity of photos that are named; i.e. widget01.jpg, widget02 etc
I use these to show customers various products.
When I upload these to my iPhone 4S the photo names are not visible – so if the customer asks to see widget07 I have no real way of knowing which image it is!
Is there a way to have the names of the images viewable? (or do I have to use an app?).

Hey! For everyone who lost their photos on their computer and are trying to get them from their PHOTO LIBRARY off their iPhone, the APP that the person mentioned above (photo privacy) actually WORKS! I had the same problem and just did a test – successful.

The app is free. First import photos to the new app, then you can export them back to the ‘Photos’ app that comes standard on the iPhone, they will go in to your camera roll and then will be available to import to iTunes next time you sync – OR – they do have an export to iTunes option, but I haven’t tried that yet. I’m just happy that I didn’t loose my pics!!!

Right. The Camera Roll represents photos taken or altered on your iPhone. The rest are photos synced from your computer. If you were to edit a photo in an app, it can only save them to your Camera Roll.

I can rotate the picture on the iPhone but can’t save it in the album – it forces the save to the Camera Roll. If could save the rotated image back to the album where it is located on the iPhone, that should solve it but seems like not an option.

There is probably orientation information in the picture’s metadata. Are you on Windows? I’m not sure how you would get into the images on Windows to change that.

When some photos sync to my iPhone they get turned sideways. They are not sideways on my desktop folder from which I synced. I deleted the album, double checked that rotation was correct on desktop, re-synced and still some were rotated sideways! Can’t find a Setting that controls this. Any suggestions?

Maybe you don’t have any duplicates at all. “Photo Library” is simply a list of all of your photos synced to your iPhone. Each of these also appears in its own album. But they are only there once. It is like in iTunes if you look at your songs by album you will see them, but you can also list all songs and see them there too.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I can’t see anywhere to check/change photo settings.

What i have currently done: Sync’d 3G, Backed up to iTunes.
Sync’d 4, Backed up from 3G sync.
My new iPhone 4 now has all my apps, contacts etc from the 3G, photos did NOT sync/move to the my new 4.

I then created a folder in My Pictures on my Windows machine, copied pictures off 3G into folder.
Then connected 4 to iTunes, Go to sync photos, selected folders only.
I sync’d photos to 4, this is now where i have:
Camera Roll (with one snap shot in)
Camera Roll 1 (Photos copied from 3G)
Photo Library (Duplicates of Camera Roll 1, photos i copied from 3G)

I really want the photos from my old 3G on my new 4 but i certainly do not want a duplicate of them too.

You would sync your 3G with your PC. Transfer all the photos there (sounds like you already have). Then sync with the 4, and transfer the photos TO it (check your iTunes “photos” setting for that iPhone.
The Camera Roll is photos you take with your iPhone. The rest are photos synced from your PC. If you don’t want duplicates, then delete the photos from your Camera Roll whenever you transfer them to your PC.

I am a Windows user, i have been using an iPhone 3G but i have upgraded to an iPhone 4. How can i transer photos from the 3G to the 4?

Also why does the ‘Photo Library’ exist at all, i have the camera roll and then the folders that i sync to the phone from iTunes, i do not want duplicates of them in another folder. Is there any way of staopiing this from happening?

Sync with iTines on your Windows machine. Look at the photos settings. You’ve got options there. You can sync them to folders on your computer, or perhaps to photo management software that you have. Then you can select which photos to sync back, including folders that then become albums.

Chamberlain – know what you mean, I’m having the same question. You don’t want hundreds of photos duplicated in the albums and under Photo Library. Photo library seems to have the compiled set of ALL photos in all albums. I’ve been looking into this too. Sounds like you also are trying to minimise precious disk space so you can fit more photos on! But here’s the thing – Like Gary says, I don’t actually think there are 2 duplicate copies, so it’s not taking up disk space. It’s just viewing them in an alternative ‘album’ which happens to be called Photo library, similar to an Itunes playlist. When I unchecked an album in iTunes to sync, it also removed it from my “photo libary” album.

I had created photo albums in my iphone4 with my old computer.
Now I have a new computer. How can I transfer a video from one of the albums I had to my new computer ? I tried sending it by email but the video is too big, it wants to separate it. PLEASE HELP !

Found out the solution to deleting unwanted albums from iPhone.

First download a program called IFILE
Then go to folder /var/mobile/media you will see photo data and/ photos select edit and then select the folder with unwanted photos or albums and select recycling bin from the bottom.
Once done go back to your photo gallery and it will update it may take upto 1 min to update you will not see te unwanted album no more!!!! Poof gone easy!!!!
