Hi, Gary. I have a new MacBook Air arriving this week and will be migrating my stuff over from my old MacBook. On the old MacBook, I have a secondary user account set up for my wife with her iTunes account for syncing her iPad. Is there a way to remove me as the administrator and upgrade her account status to administrator, or will I need to do a reinstall and build her administrator account from scratch?

You can make any account an administrator. Just go into the Accounts sectionof System Preferences when you are logged in as the current admin. Select the other account and you should see an option to make it an admin.
If I do that, can I delete the user who was the primary administrator?
Sure. All of those files will be gone, so be sure that is what you want to do. I've been in your situation before and I usually opt to leave the old admin user around for a while just in case.
It won't let me remove the first administrator. The "-" button is grayed out (only) when that user is highlighted.
Are you logged in as the first admin? You can be logged into more accounts that one at a time. Make sure you log out of that account.
Gary,Question related to above subject administrator accounts.I was using an old HP laptop with Itunes to work with my iphone and it stopped reading the device. My brother is giving me his Imac for which he is the "admin" and do I understand correctly, that I can make another admin account for myself? I notice on the current guest account set up that not all dock items appear-is this because its a guest acc.I want to set myself up as second admin with full use of applications.if i do this will i keep safe my brothers pic/music etc safe until deleted or backed up.Would a simple delete be all that is necessary to remove everything he has in this computer. Thanks, gary
Right. Create a second account. Make it an admin (as many can be admins as you like). Use it. Then have him log in on his admin account and he can delete your admin account and it will all be erased.
