Are Online Password Strength Testers Safe?

Are online password strength testers work or are they just a way for dubious individuals to steal your password?

Impossible to say in general. I'm sure many are safe. It is possible to have one that is malicious too.

But why use them at all?

Let Safari create a new password for you. Or, use 1Password or similar to do it. These will create truly random and secure passwords. And they will remember them for you so you don't have to enter them in all the time.

What about generating a strong password for your iCloud/Apple ID? What is the best way of doing that? After all, isn’t this where your keychain info gets stored with all the other web site passwords?

George: If using 1Password or similar, you can use their password generator for that. You should store it in there anyway. If you don't have a password manager, you can always run Keychain Access and then choose File, New Password Item and use the generator there without saving it.
