Does Using a Screen Saver Have a Downside?

Gary are there down sides to using a screen saver? For example wearing out the screen faster, or just using up memory?

It uses more energy than just having your Mac go to sleep.
It generates a little more heat in your Mac than sleeping, of course, so it could shorten the life of your Mac.
It is using the display, compared to sleep, so it could shorten the life of your display.
The latter two may or may not be an issue. In most cases the Macs will last past their obsolescence either way.

The advantages to using screen savers are largely in the past. You don't need them to prevent burn-in of the screen, as sleeping would be better. You also don't need them for a faster "wake up" because waking a Mac from sleep today is fast.
But some people like to use them to make their work spaces nicer and express themselves in a work environment.

When I use the screen saver I can save only the one page that is is on the screen at the time that I am recording the screen on my
IPhone. Usually the information that I am trying to save contains more then one page. Is their a way to save several pages then doing a screen save on on each individual page.

Tom: Do you mean screensaver? Or screenshot? Seems like you are talking about screenshots here. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VQS3cny7s0

Hi Gary, After turning on screen saver which is showing an album in my photos (randomly): I notice that the odd picture is rotated or upside down, yet the same pic in the photos app is correctly displayed. Running Ventura 13.2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Kathy: Not sure. Perhaps that photo was originally rotated in the Photos app so you are seeing the original orientation in the screensaver?
