When opening the mail app on the iPhone 4, with iOS 5, it always defaults to the first email account on the list. Is there a way to change that, or better yet to rearrange the list of email accounts so the one that is used the most is on the top?

Email Account Default When Opening Mail on the iPhone?

When you switch to Mail, it should pick up where you left off. If you were reading a message, you should still see that message there. If you were looking at a specific mailbox or inbox, you should be in the same place.
So I'm not sure what you mean.
Hi Gary - let me try to better explain. Currently on my iPhone I have four email accounts. The one that is listed on the top is iCloud. However, that is not the account I use the most. Whenever I open the mail app, the iCloud account is the one the app defaults too (guessing because it is at the top of the list). My question is, is it possible to rearrange the email accounts listed on the iPhone to have the most used account be to top listed? I've checked the settings/mail settings and don't see anything there that would help with that. Thanks for the shout!
I don't think there is any way to arrange them, no. But does it really matter as long as they are all on the screen and a single click away? Isn't being lower on the screen actually even closer to your thumb for tapping?
I'm wondering if what you mean is changing the default email acount you're sending your emai from in which case you can change that. Go to SETTINGS > MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS. Scroll down to the MAIL section and then click on DEFAULT ACCOUNT. Select the one you'd like. If this is not what you mean, then I agree with with Gary's answer.
I have the same question.
When you close the Mail app (really close it) and reopen the app, it defaults to (I think) the account that is on the top. It also opens this account showing the inbox. This is an account I use less then another configured account, but there is no way to rearrange the account so the most used is selected to open its inbox at startup.
I know that when I close the Mail app and not really close it (still running in background) it picks up where I left it.. But that is not what I want.
The best workaround is to give each account a number, so it gets arranged the way you want it.
Guys, I know what you mean. If you exit from the mail app, pushing, the home button, sometimes the next time
you re-enter it immediately takes you into the first listed email account's email. Annoying.
I think this is an icloud issue because I never had this problem before I reseted my iphone 4 and a icloud account was made for me.
This is totally useless since I want to look at all my inboxes. Not just the one which I never use!
FYI -- Not an iCloud issue. I use iCloud and my iPhone Mail app always just picks up where I left off -- viewing all inboxes, a specific inbox, or even another mailbox entirely.
I've had the same issues and have tried renaming my 4 mail accounts with 1,2,3,4 or 4,3,2,1 or A,B,C,D or D,C,B,A.....only solution for me was to remove the mail accounts listed first in my "Inboxes" making the very first one in the list the default, primary mail account which I wanted to open first.
This is only an issue when completely closing out the Mail app and then reopening it.
Thanks JC. Your reply solved it for me. I changed the default in settings. :)
In ios 6, open the mail app. Go back to mailboxes view. Press edit in the top right. Now rearrange your accounts putting the one you want to be open on app open at the top and vola!
hope that helps!
It works!! Press edit in the top right, hold the account that you want to shift and move it to the position you need. This is great!!
It works!! . This is great!!
Thanks!!!
I have a similar problem. Mail always opens to my default account, even if I had exited mail viewing all the mailboxes. Initially this was not a problem. It just started.
Does anyone have any solutions?
