How Can I Use the Loudspeakers From My iMac Through a Connected MacBook Pro?

Hi

Recently I have bought a new MacBook Pro 2016 which I connect to my old iMac to use it as a external display.

I would like to use the loudspeakers from my iMac, but I could not figure out how, it always plays the music on my MacBook Pro.

Is there a way to use the loudspeakers of my iMac as an external display? I connected the iMac through the MiniDisplay port to USB-C.

Thanks and I wish all a great weekend.

One way would be to use the software AirServer on your iMac. Then use AirPlay to send your audio from your MacBook to your iMac. https://www.airserver.com/Mac.

But this is for when your iMac is turned on normally. I think you are talking about using the special mode on some older iMacs that lets you use the iMac as a display, correct? I'm not sure how to use it as a display and as speakers, and unfortunately, I don't have one of those models to try it out.
