How Do I Access My Photos Library In iMovie?

My iMovie recently updated and I can no longer access my photos or videos from the side bar. Some show up there in “years” of some old albums but recent photos/videos are no longer in the project/media screen. I know I can drag photos/videos to my desk top and then drag them into imovie, but it would be much easier the way it used to be directly from that media window. Any suggestions?

I'm going to assume you are using the latest version of macOS, Photos, and iMovie.

Then you bring up My Media, so you can see Photos in the left sidebar of iMovie.

At the top, you should see a drop-down menu with My Albums, Albums, Years, Collections, etc. Select one, such as Years. Now look next to that. Do you see "All Years"? That means you are down in a sub-listing inside of Years. Click All Years to go back up and see all of the years.

The same is true for My Albums. Look for "All My Albums" and click that to go back up to a listing of all your albums.

Also, note that you can drag directly from the Photos app into the iMovie timeline. No need to drag to the Desktop and then into iMovie. This can often be the best way to find the photos you want and quickly get them into your project.

Thank you. After playing around with "year"s and "all years" all photos/videos were there. Apple does not make this easy to use as it was years ago. I actually took time off and stopped using iMovie because of this issue. Thank you for the answer to my problem.
